Papercraft Silo: A Round Farm Silo with a Cone Roof

Template for a gray farm silo with a ladder, a door, and a cow sign, with a round cone roof below, printable

The silo is the tallest building on the farm – and the easiest to make. The wall simply rolls into a tube, and a pointy cone roof goes on top. At about 5 inches tall, it towers over the barn and farmhouse and completes the paper farm.

A corrugated wall with a ladder, a door, and a cow sign to roll up, plus the cone roof with a glue tab.

How to build the silo

1
Print the page on A4 or US Letter at 100% (Actual size) and cut out the wall and the cone roof.
2
Fold the small notches along the top of the wall inward.
3
Pull the wall over the edge of a pencil so it curls, roll it into a tube, and glue it closed with the tab.
4
Slide the roof circle together into a point, glue the tab, and set the cone on the notches.

Safety: Stuffing, tape and small parts are not for children under 3.

💡 Tips

  • Regular printer paper rolls more easily; light cardstock makes a sturdier silo.
  • Curl the wall over a table edge or a pencil first so it doesn't crease.
  • Hold the tube with a clothespin or two while the glue dries.
  • A few grains of rice in the bottom keep it from tipping – and count as feed.

What kids practice

Rolling the wall and shaping the roof shows kids how a rectangle becomes a cylinder and a circle becomes a cone – geometry without trying. Cutting and gluing build fine motor skills. It's also a nice way to explain that farmers store feed for the winter in a silo.

🔄 Variations & Ideas

Twin silos
Print the page twice and stand two silos side by side, like on a big farm.
