A doghouse with roof, a fold-up trough, and a farm dog and puppy with slot-in bases, plus instructions.

How to build the doghouse and trough

1
Print the page on A4 or US Letter at 100% (Actual size), cut out all parts, carefully cut out the doorway, and score the fold lines.
2
Doghouse: fold the walls back and up, glue the tabs inside, and add the roof.
3
Trough: fold the walls forward, toward the hay, and glue them.
4
Cut out the dog and puppy and slide on their bases.
5
Write your dog's name on the sign above the door.

Safety: Stuffing, tape and small parts are not for children under 3.

💡 Tips

  • Have a grown-up start the doorway cut with pointed scissors.
  • Cardstock (65 lb or heavier) keeps the trough walls standing.
  • Real hay or bits of green yarn in the trough look extra cute.
  • Pick the dog's name together – it makes the doghouse feel like their own.

What kids practice

The doghouse and trough build cutting, folding, and gluing skills, and since the trough folds forward instead of back, it's a nice way to compare the two fold types. Writing on the sign is letter practice. Kids also learn what a farm dog does all day.

🔄 Variations & Ideas

Name the dog
Every child writes a different name on the sign – a classroom ends up with a whole pack.
