How to make the bunting

1
Print both pages on A4 or US Letter at 100% (Actual size) and cut out the pennants.
2
Fold the gray strip at the top back along the fold line.
3
Lay a string under the fold and glue the gray strip down.
4
Space the pennants out along the string and hang up your bunting.

Safety: Stuffing, tape and small parts are not for children under 3.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Cardstock (65 lb or heavier) helps the pennants hang flat.
  • Baker's twine, yarn, or curling ribbon all work great as string.
  • For a longer banner, just print the pages a few more times.
  • Glue small paper flowers or pom-poms between pennants for an extra festive look.

What kids practice

Cutting straight along the pennant edges is great scissor practice. While stringing them up, kids decide on an order of animals and colors – a playful first step into patterns. The baby animals on page 2 invite matching moms and babies: cow and calf, sheep and lamb.

πŸ”„ Variations & Ideas

Moms and babies
Hang the pennants so the cow is next to the calf, the pig next to the piglet, and the sheep next to the lamb.
Name banner
Add letter pennants cut from construction paper between the animals to spell the birthday child's name.
Coloring station
At the party, every child colors one pennant – then string them all into one shared banner.
