Papercraft Fence & Gate with a Horse and Donkey

Template with four brown wooden fence pieces with grass strips, a gate, and a stand-up horse and donkey, printable

This fence gives the animals their own pasture: 4 fence pieces and a gate that opens can stand in a straight line or form a corner. A horse and a donkey move right in. It's the easiest model in the papercraft farm, so even 4-year-olds can join in.

Four fence pieces with grass strips, a gate with posts, and a horse and donkey with bases, plus instructions.

How to build the fence and gate

1
Print the page on A4 or US Letter at 100% (Actual size) and cut out the fence pieces, including between the pickets.
2
Fold the green grass strip back so the fence stands up.
3
Glue several fence pieces together with the gray tabs – in a straight line or as a corner.
4
Cut out the gate: it's already attached to the left post and swings open and shut along the fold line.
5
Cut out the horse and donkey, snip the slits, and slide the bases on crosswise.

Safety: Stuffing, tape and small parts are not for children under 3.

💡 Tips

  • The pointy pickets are fiddly – little ones can simply cut straight across the top.
  • Cardstock (65 lb or heavier) helps the fence stand nice and straight.
  • Print the page a few times for a bigger pasture.
  • A piece of green felt or construction paper makes a meadow inside the fence.

What kids practice

Cutting around the pickets is great scissor practice, and folding and standing the pieces builds fine motor skills. While setting up the pasture, kids think about how much room the animals need and where the gate should go. The horse and donkey spark a fun chat: who has longer ears?
