Volcanoes and Pterosaurs
Pterosaurs were flying reptiles, not dinosaurs. In their time, Earth had lots of volcanoes. For scientists, that turned out to be lucky: in China, volcanic ash buried animals so quickly that their fossils were preserved incredibly well – including pterosaurs with traces of skin and fine fuzz. Pterosaurs also had very light, hollow bones that helped them fly. Real volcanoes are never as friendly as the one on our page – but at least the pterosaur is smiling here!
Fun Ideas for Your Finished Volcano Page
Glue cotton balls onto the smoke cloud to make it extra fluffy. Try a baking soda and vinegar volcano experiment together (with a grown-up!). Or imagine where the flying reptile heads next.
