Fun Facts About Pteranodon
Pteranodon was a pterosaur, or flying reptile – and pterosaurs were not dinosaurs! They were close relatives, but a separate group of animals. It lived in the late Cretaceous period, about 86 to 84 million years ago, above a huge sea that once split North America in two. Its wings could stretch over 20 feet from tip to tip. They were made of skin stretched along an extremely long fourth finger. Its name means “wing without teeth,” because its beak was toothless. It ate mostly fish.
