Fun Facts About Quetzalcoatlus
Quetzalcoatlus was a pterosaur – not a dinosaur, but a close relative. It was one of the biggest flying animals of all time: its wings spanned about 33 to 36 feet, as wide as a small airplane! Standing on the ground, it was as tall as a giraffe. It lived at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 68 to 66 million years ago, in what is now Texas. It’s named after Quetzalcoatl, a god of the Aztecs. Scientists think it walked around on the ground like a stork, looking for small animals to eat.
