Fun Facts About Mosasaurus
Mosasaurus was a marine reptile, not a dinosaur! It was a giant ocean-living relative of today’s monitor lizards and snakes. It lived in the late Cretaceous period, about 82 to 66 million years ago, and could grow up to about 50 feet long. It’s named after the Meuse River in the Netherlands, where its first bones were found back in the 1700s. It breathed air and gave birth to live babies instead of laying eggs on land.
