Fun Facts About Liopleurodon
Liopleurodon was a pliosaur – a marine reptile, not a dinosaur. It was related to Plesiosaurus but had a short neck and a big, powerful head. It lived in the middle Jurassic period, about 166 to 155 million years ago, in the seas of what is now Europe. Its size used to be greatly exaggerated – today, scientists estimate about 20 to 23 feet. With its four flippers, it swam powerfully through the water. It was a meat-eater and had to come up to breathe.
