Fun Facts About Chasmosaurus
Chasmosaurus lived in the late Cretaceous period, about 76 to 75 million years ago, in what is now Canada. It was a relative of Triceratops and grew about 15 to 16 feet long. Its frill was enormous but had two big openings, so it was lighter than it looked – that’s where its name, “opening lizard,” comes from. The back of the frill often had a notch, giving it a heart-like shape. In 2010, scientists in Canada even found the skeleton of a baby Chasmosaurus. It was a plant-eater.
Fun Ideas for Your Finished Chasmosaurus
Color the frill red and give the page as a heartfelt card. Cut little hearts from construction paper and glue them around the dino. Or compare the heart-shaped frill with Triceratops’ rounded one.
