Fun Facts About Ankylosaurus

Ankylosaurus lived at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 68 to 66 million years ago, in western North America – at the same time as T-Rex. It grew about 20 to 26 feet long and was wide and heavy. Its name means “fused lizard.” Its back was covered in bony plates set into its skin – it even had armor above its eyes. The tail club was made of fused bones and was probably used for defense. It ate low-growing plants.

Fun Ideas for Your Finished Ankylosaurus

Cover the armor panels with paper scraps to make a mosaic. Shape an Ankylosaurus from clay and press in lentils or peas as armor. Or compare its armor with a turtle’s shell.
