Why This Meetup Is So Funny

Two animals staring at each other because they look so alike – kids find that hilarious. The page invites comparing: who has spots, little horns, or ears? Every kid knows giraffes from the zoo and dinosaurs from books, so together they make an awesome pair. Both offer big areas to color, and the giraffe adds its famous spots.

Long-Necked Dinosaur vs. Giraffe

These two never actually met: dinosaurs died out about 66 million years ago, and giraffes have only been around for a few million years. Still, they have something in common – both are plant-eaters that use their long necks to reach high leaves. A giraffe can grow up to 18 feet tall and has only 7 neck bones, the same number as people. Many long-necked dinosaurs had a lot more neck bones and were much bigger. So in real life they wouldn’t have been eye to eye – but on our page they are!

Fun Ideas for Your Finished Page

Play “spot the difference”: what do the dino and giraffe share, and what’s different? Make up a conversation between them and write it in speech bubbles. Then on your next zoo trip, take a close look at a real giraffe.
