Little Volcano Paper Squishy Template

Small brown volcano with an angry face, red lava at the crater and gray puffs of smoke

It's bubbling, it's rumbling, any second now: the little volcano shows how an eruption feels, with no damage at all. It's great for kids who are part scientist, part grumpkin.

✂️ What’s in the Template

The PDF shows the volcano in brown with a red lava top, gray smoke puffs and an angry face, in color front and back. You also get a coloring version and mini volcanoes on page 3. It's about 5 inches tall.

🧺 What You Need
  • Printer and regular printer paper (US Letter or A4)
  • Scissors
  • Wide clear packing tape (or laminating sheets)
  • Stuffing: cotton balls, yarn or paper scraps
  • Crayons or markers for the coloring version

📝 Step-by-Step Instructions

1
Print at 100% (turn off “fit to page”). Color the B/W version first.
2
Cut out the front and back along the outer line – the white border is the tape edge.
3
Cover both pieces with wide clear tape, overlapping the strips slightly, and smooth them out.
4
Place the front and back together exactly (colored sides out).
5
Tape all around the edge, leaving about 1 inch open where it says “leave open here”.
6
Stuff with cotton, yarn or paper scraps – not too full – and tape the opening shut. Done!

😤 Stress-relief tip: Squeeze, squish, toss gently – for example at the squishy target. More ideas in the guide Squishies for Stress Relief.

💡 Tips

  • The crater at the top is narrow, so cut very carefully with the scissor tips.
  • Stuff the bottom more and the top less so it stands steady.
  • Glue small bits of cotton onto the paper for puffy smoke clouds.
  • Squeeze the volcano from the bottom up and it practically erupts.

🎨 Color Ideas

Lava red
Red, orange and yellow in the crater make the lava look scorching.
Sleeping volcano
Gray, blue and a tiny Zzz make it look peaceful until it wakes up.
Colorful eruption
Let rainbow-colored lava shoot out of the crater.

🔄 Variations

Eruption game
Count down from 10, squeeze the volcano and shout “Eruption!”
Volcano island
Make several volcanoes in different sizes as your own island.
Lava toss
Gently toss the volcano at the target, with zero damage.

Safety: Stuffing and tape are not for children under 3. Never use real food or scented oils as stuffing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the volcano dangerous?
No, it's paper and tape. There's no real lava and no danger.

Can I use it to let out anger?
Squeezing can be fun and take some pressure off. It doesn't replace therapy or talking things out.

What filling is good?
Yarn or cotton. For the lava look you can use red yarn, which only needs to show on the outside.
