Free Printable Cow and Cattle Coloring Pages
The youngest colorists get big, clear shapes: a cow with her calf, a cow with a bell, a cow wearing a flower crown, and a laughing cow chewing a blade of grass. Pages like “Milking the Cow,” “Cow in the Barn with Hay,” and “Cows at the Water Trough” add a bit more detail. For a giggle, there's the cow jumping over the moon, straight out of the classic nursery rhyme.
Older kids will find some real challenges here. The spotted cow portrait, the cow mandala, and the decorated cow coming down from the Alps have lots of small spaces to fill. There's also a Highland cow with long hair, a bull in the meadow, and an ox pulling a wooden cart. The page “Dairy Cow Explained” is great for labeling body parts and talking about them.
The page “Cow Lying Down Chewing the Cud” comes with a real fact: cows bring their food back up and chew it slowly a second time, which is called chewing the cud. Their stomach has four compartments for this, and the biggest one is the rumen. Cows have no top front teeth, just a hard pad, and they pull up grass with their tongue. A cow only gives milk because she has had a calf.
🎨 Color Tips: Cows & Cattle
| Area | Color | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coat and spots | Black, brown or reddish brown on white | Leaving the white paper showing between patches makes the classic spotted look pop. |
| Highland cow | Rust red, ochre, copper | Layering several warm shades makes the shaggy coat look full and fluffy. |
| Muzzle, udder and nose | Soft pink, light pink | A light pink keeps the face friendly and sets the muzzle apart from the coat. |
| Pasture and flowers | Grass green, yellow, sky blue | Bright green and colorful blooms turn the background into a summer meadow. |
