Colorful farm quartet cards with dairy cow, Highland cow, horses, Shetland pony, donkey, llama and pig to print

Does the draft horse weigh more than the dairy cow? Who lays more eggs – the goose or the frog? This farm animal quartet mixes collecting sets and comparing stats with real animal facts, and it's great for family game night, preschool, and elementary classrooms.

How to set up the game

1
Print the card sheets at actual size on cardstock and cut out the cards.
2
If you like, print the backs double-sided (flip on the long edge) or glue them on.
3
Draw your own animals on the 4 blank cards and fill in their stats.
4
Shuffle, deal all the cards, and pick one of the two ways to play.

How to play

1
A quartet is 4 cards from the same set, like A1, A2, A3, and A4 – whoever collects the most quartets wins.
2
Collect the Sets: ask another player for a card you need (β€œDo you have D3, the Brahma chicken?”). You can only ask for sets you already hold a card from.
3
If they have it, they hand it over and you ask again – if not, it's their turn. Lay finished quartets face up in front of you.
4
Who Has More?: everyone flips their top card, the active player reads one stat, and the highest number wins all the cards that round. On a tie, draw one more card.
5
The winner is whoever ends up with all the cards – or the most cards after 15 minutes.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Use cardstock (65–110 lb) or laminate the cards so they last.
  • For kids who can't read yet, have a grown-up read the stats out loud.
  • A quick strategy tip: the frog is tiny but lays a huge number of eggs!
  • Coloring the black-and-white cards makes a great quiet activity before the first game.

What kids learn

Comparing stats gives kids practice with big and small numbers and with units like kilograms, centimeters, and days. They find out how long a chick takes to hatch and how many piglets are in a litter. Collecting sets builds recall, asking questions, and fair turn-taking.

πŸ”„ Variations & Ideas

My Own Animal
Fill the 4 blank cards with favorite animals – look up the stats together in a book.
Guessing round
Before flipping, everyone guesses how heavy or tall the animal is – closest guess gets a point.
Sorting game
For little ones: sort the cards by color and set, no rules needed.
