Race car driver helmet mask with a big visor, racing stripes, and checkered flag, ready to print

A helmet with a big visor, two bold racing stripes, and a little checkered flag – our printable race car driver mask gets kids ready for the starting line. Color it, cut it out, and add elastic. This free racing helmet template is perfect for a car-themed party, ride-on races, and dress-up.

Why This Race Car Driver Mask Is So Fast

Two wide racing stripes let kids pick their own team colors for a real racing design. The big visor is fun to color, and the eye holes inside it give a clear view. A little checkered flag sticker is a cool touch for every champion. Kids five and up can also add their own race number to the helmet.

🧰 What You Need

  • Printer + heavier paper or cardstock (65–110 lb)
  • Colored pencils, markers or watercolors
  • Scissors (craft knife for the eye holes – adults only)
  • Elastic cord (about 12–14 inches)
  • Hole punch for the elastic holes
1
Print
Print the template at actual size (100 %, not β€œfit to page”) on thick paper.
2
Color
Color the mask any way you like – the big shapes are perfect for little hands.
3
Cut Out
Cut along the thick outer line.
4
Eye Holes
An adult cuts out the eye holes with a craft knife or pointed scissors.
5
Add Elastic
Punch holes at the two small circles, thread the elastic through and knot it – done!
πŸ’‘ Craft Tip: Color the stripes with metallic markers and glue a homemade race number on the side. Cover the visor with shiny silver or blue paper, leaving only the eye holes open.

⚠️ Safety: eye holes, craft knives and hot glue are grown-up jobs. Don’t run or play rough while wearing a mask that limits your view – and never put elastic around the neck.

Play Ideas for Little Race Car Drivers

Hold a ride-on or balance bike race through a course with curves and a finish line. In a pit stop challenge, a team swaps four paper tires on a cardboard car as fast as they can. Play the flag game: green means go, yellow means slow down, and checkered means you've reached the finish. Then hold an awards ceremony with a paper trophy for everyone.

Fun Facts About Race Car Drivers

Race car drivers wear a helmet and fireproof suits to stay safe at high speeds. On the track, flags have their own language: yellow warns of danger, green means go, and the black-and-white checkered flag signals the end of the race. In the fastest racing series, a whole pit crew can change all four tires in just a few seconds. Drivers need quick reactions, lots of focus, and good fitness. And on every road, safety always comes before speed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What age is this mask suitable for?
The race car driver mask is made for ages 5 to 8. Kids color and cut out the outer shape themselves, and an adult helps cut the eye holes.

Will the mask fit a child’s face?
Yes – printed at actual size (100 %) on A4 or US Letter, the mask is roughly the size of a child’s face. For adults, scale it up to 110–115 % or print on A3/Tabloid.

What paper works best?
We recommend heavier cardstock around 200 gsm (about 110 lb) so the helmet stays sturdy around the eye holes.

Is the download free?
Yes, all masks and coloring pages on PureSketchy are 100% free for personal use, preschools, and schools.

Is there a German version?
Yes! You can find the German version at Rennfahrer Maske.
