Hedgehog Mask Template to Color and Craft: Free Printable

Hedgehog mask with a ring of big spikes and a pointy snout, ready to print

A crown of chunky spikes, a pointy snout, and a tiny button nose – our printable hedgehog mask is a fall favorite. Color it, cut it out, and add elastic. This free hedgehog mask template is perfect for autumn crafts, dress-up, and our woodland animals set.

Why Kids Love This Hedgehog Mask

The ten or so big, rounded spikes are wide enough for even two-year-olds to color with ease. Since the spikes are rounded, they're also quick and easy to cut out. The pointy snout with its little round nose makes the hedgehog instantly recognizable. Every mask turns into a cute little fall masterpiece.

🧰 What You Need

  • Printer + heavier paper or cardstock (65–110 lb)
  • Colored pencils, markers or watercolors
  • Scissors (craft knife for the eye holes – adults only)
  • Elastic cord (about 12–14 inches)
  • Hole punch for the elastic holes
1
Print
Print the template at actual size (100 %, not β€œfit to page”) on thick paper.
2
Color
Color the mask any way you like – the big shapes are perfect for little hands.
3
Cut Out
Cut along the thick outer line.
4
Eye Holes
An adult cuts out the eye holes with a craft knife or pointed scissors.
5
Add Elastic
Punch holes at the two small circles, thread the elastic through and knot it – done!
πŸ’‘ Craft Tip: Glue dried fall leaves or brown paper scraps onto the spikes so it looks like a hedgehog that just scurried through a leaf pile. Cotton swabs cut in half and painted brown also make great spikes.

⚠️ Safety: eye holes, craft knives and hot glue are grown-up jobs. Don’t run or play rough while wearing a mask that limits your view – and never put elastic around the neck.

Play Ideas for Little Hedgehogs

Play Roll Up: every hedgehog curls into a tight ball the moment someone calls danger. Pile up newspaper or real leaves for a cozy winter nest. In a bug hunt, hedgehogs gather paper beetles and worms and carry them back home. Then everyone settles in for a long winter nap until spring wakes them up.

Fun Facts About Hedgehogs

A hedgehog has thousands of spines on its back. When it feels scared, it rolls up into a spiky ball. Hedgehogs come out at night and munch mostly on beetles, worms, and other little critters. Wild hedgehogs live in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and in cold places they hibernate through the winter in a pile of leaves. You won't find wild hedgehogs in North America, but they're popular in picture books everywhere.
